Hello community experts,
How do i assign permissions to user based on entity level in CDS without navigating to dynamics 365?
One of the customer has only CDS, so how do i assign roles from CDS to the users for updating CDS ?
Kindly guide

Hi,
No problem, did you manage to acces users to assign roles then?
If you already have at least one licence then there should be no extra cost just for creating separate environments. You will need at least 1GB of database capacity available each time you create a new production or sandbox environment though. Trial environments (that last 30 days) do not use any database capacity.
@Mugsy269Many thanks again for the reply and for the valuable info
Actually I just implemented it, I'll follow implementation in Dev or test environment in future.
Could you please let me know if there will be any extra license or cost required if we create a separate test/Dev environment?
Please guide

Hi @Sumaira ,
The user not seeing any environments would indicate that the user does not have the correct permissions on any environments (including the default). Do you have contact with a Global O365 admin? they should be able to see the environment and then assign your user as admin to the default environment too.
I am not sure on your use case but I would also question the reason for using the default environment for any business applications using the CDS. I personally think a better solution would be to create a separate environment (even if it is only a development/test environment)
Thanks
@Mugsy269Thanks a lot for the response
The user is not able to see the security option using method 1 you suggested
I would like to go with method 2 but the customer is using default environment. How do i assign roles to default environment? I dont see any environment in default environment
Please guide

Hi Sumaira,
You do not need to have Dynamics in order to assign security roles to users in CDS however, some elements of CDS and Model Driven apps still use the Dynamics interface.
There are a number of ways to get to the user administration screen, I have listed 2 ways below. Please let me know if this is what you are looking for and mark as solution if so.
From the environment with CDS click on the cog and select advanced settings (this will navigate to a Dynamics interface)
Next, select the drop-down arrow next to settings at the top and you will see a security option, select this.
This will take you to the below screen where you can create new security roles or select users and assign existing security roles.
Alternatively, another way is from the Power Apps admin portal - https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/environments
Then select your environment with CDS from the list, then on the next screen on the right hand side you will see a section called access with an option to see all users. Find and click on the user you want and it will navigate to the Dynamics interface for that user where you can add a security role.
