Writing to Sharepoint list - Intermittent issue?

Hi Team, As part of a project we have adapted the "Shoutouts" template, using a Sharepoint list as a data source. When the Powerapp is writing to the data source, some data is sometimes missing. We are writing a number of fields from the Office 365 connector which always work - but sometimes the surname or department are missing. Usually if the department is captured, the surname is not and vice versa. This only happens for the column we have named "RecipientDepartment" which related to "_selectedUser" in the Shoutouts template. What we have named "SenderDepartment" i.e. "_myProfile.Department" is always captured. I would have thought these would be captured from the same location? Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated!

The attached image shows the patch being used to write to the data source. All function as they should, except surname and department, which sometimes do not work..... 😞

    Hi @pbroadley ,

Do you mean that you could not update surname or department field successfully?

    Could you tell me

1)the formula about how do you set "_selectedUser" ?

2)the data type of "RecipientDepartment"  field and "RecipientLastName" field?

It seems that your patch function has no problem. So I believe the problem should be about whether you collect correct data from  "_selectedUser" .

If you use Office365 Users connector to get user profile to set   "_selectedUser", please check whether that user has surname or department.

Not all user has data in these two fields in his azure profile.

You could check this in azure admin center:

    Best regards,

    Hi Phoebe,

I can't find the actual code where the "_selecteduser" is specified, but i know it is connected to Office 365 Users.

This issue does not present itself in all uentries, and I know it is occuring for users that definitely have surnames and departments. For example, if I send a shoutout it may appear in the Sharepoint list with a sender department and no recipient department, if the same person sends me a shoutout the same will happen to their SharePoint list entry, so in both cases the sender department is recorded, but not the recipient - though the same information is recorded in the sender field.

To me it appears that a user can have a department which can be drawn upon and the logic appears correct for drawing the department as the entries generally are made with the department present.
