When I save the flow, it breaks something that currently works

Hello! I'm having an issue where a clow that currently works, when I alter it, BREAKS.

See the attached images to see what the flow looks like before and after the change. Currently, the 2nd branch (right side) works fine. I have to delete the first branch for unrelated reasons. However, when I do so, the second branch suddenly stops working.

The ONLY change I am making is deleting the parallel branch. It shouldn't break branch 2 at all and yet it is!

How do I fix this?

Error Message:

Flow save failed with code 'WorkflowOperationParametersExtraParameter' and message 'The API operation does not contain a definition for parameter 'item/XYZ'.'.
