How to create an application user in Dynamic 365?

Hello,

I have registered an app in Azure AD, with required Dynamic CRM permissions, however I am unable to create an application user for the same:

Challenges:

I see there is auto generated user based on registered app in Azure AD, under "Application User" in D365, however it's emailID and username is formed with IDs and I have no idea what password it has, therefore I am unsure what's the purpose of this auto generated user which has locked properties.

I have created new user with O365 + D365 customer voice USL license, however I am unable to see the same user in the D365 to make that user as Application user.

Could you please share how can I successfully create an application user in the test tenant?

Thanks,

    Hi @dave8,

The steps to create an application user are outlined here. You just need the App ID of the App Registration. An application user won't have a password as it just represents an App Registration in Azure AD.

Note that there a bunch of built in system application users that every environment will have (depending on which D365 apps are installed in the environment).

Thank you @ChrisPiasecki for your attention!

Actually in my case, when I have registered an app, there is already associated application user created with that app ID in D365, and now if I create new user by assigning just app ID, it says, duplicated record.

Therefore, I assume I have to use, the same auto generated application user. However it's email ID is in following format:

    <<App Name>>_<<APPID>>@<<GUID>>.com

Can I use above email ID in D365 connection string as suggested here which require to pass emailID and password? How do I manage that?

    Thanks,

    Hi @dave8,

You should use the ClientSecret auth type. In your Azure AD App Registration, generate a secret key. Make sure to copy that key and save it, once you navigate away from the page you can't view the key value again. In your connection string, enter App ID into the ClientID, and the secret key you just generated into the ClientSecret.

    Hi @dave8,

Just following up on this, did the ClientSecret auth type for the connection string work for you?
