Hi,

I am trying to use on-prem data gateway with in PowerApps via O365 E1 license and got the following error "

Your license(s) doesn’t support use of gateways. To use this feature, start a trial." What license do I need to use this feature?

    I had to delete my connections and gateway because I'm switch from a dev mode to pre-production data set.  While I successfully recreated the data gateway powerapps will not allow me to make a new connection.

    My Plan...

    Microsoft Power Apps Plan 2 Trial
    Flow P2 Viral
    PowerApps Trial

    Any suggestions?

    So if that link in the notice did not work, then just go into the Office 365 admin center and assign the license to the user you want in the license section under their account.

    Yeah that's what I've got now, even got this from Microsoft, but when I attempt to assign it, it says "The subscription you were looking for is not found"...really weird.

    @cguerin101

    PowerApps Plan 1 has been retired and needs to be replaced with PowerApps Per User or Per App plans.

    This happened this month.  Please review this document for more details.

    I have a PowerApps Plan 1 but I still get the same message, trying to create a MYSQL connection to a gateway

    @Anonymous

    Agreed!  We noticed as well that places where we were "active users" were prompted to start a trial.  I have a feeling that doing so would only complicate issues.  Perhaps starting a trial is the start of the 12 month grace period.  It has not been a pressing issue on the Apps where we were using them...so still on the fence.

    For reference - the one App we had that had this in play was a Company directory App.  The company had more people than they had users (i.e. some were just employees and didn't have any Office 365 licenses to speak of) and as such, they have an on-premise SQL database that is populated by their in-house HR department with the employee names.  Our App queried the in-house database and then combined the results with Office 365 lookups where applicable and displayed for them a nice company directory for all users on all devices.

    When this license changed for the On-Prem gateway, that App stopped working.  It was not feasible for the company to spend an additional $700 per month (100 users * $7 per month) just to have a Company Directory in their hand.  The App is scrapped for now.

    Re: Licenses requirement for On-premises data gateway

    The main issue we are facing is that it does not appear that this reference from the blog post on licensing changes has actually happened.

    "Customers with active users of these features will get an automatic extension until January 31, 2020 or the expiration of their existing Office 365 subscription term (whichever is longer). "

    All E3 using On Prem connections for 12months and now being prompted for trials and hitting issues creating new connections based on the advertised auto extension not happening. Support case logged - bounced from Exchange / Dynamics, PowerApps then on to Licensing..

    If you were using a data gateway in 2018 I'd suggest logging a support case to ensure you receive the extension to give you time to consider moving your sql resources to Azure during 2019.

    Re: Licenses requirement for On-premises data gateway

    Thanks, for the followup.  I was seeing the documentation about the licensing change but there is still documentation that makes it appear as though OnPrem connections do not require a P1 license

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/pricing-billing-skus

    I did open a support case where I was told that we should have received an automatic extension which we did not.

    Thank you @RandyHayes and @ElevenTech !!!!

    I think I was very confused about what was included with the E3 license since it isn't clearly spelled anywhere.

    Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

    Hello folks,

    Please refer to this blog announcing changes to the licensing with respect to office only licenses. Customers who were going to be impacted were informed through message center in office portal.

    Also since most of the folks on this thread are trying to get access to on-premises data,  a plan 1 license should be able to get you access on-premises data using an on-premises gateway. Please refer the plan comparison page where these features are called out.

    Thanks,

    _Sri
