"The parent is not valid" (error 0x80040205) when trying to Set Regarding from grid view

In the last couple of weeks we have lost the capability to Set Regarding on an Email Activity from its grid view.

It is important to note that we can still set the Regarding field if we open up the detail record on the Activity, set it there and Save and Close. In other words, contrary to the message, there appears to be no problem with the parent record we are choosing. The issues only arise when attempting to set Regarding from the grid. As a workaround, we can open up each record, but this is laborious and defeats the object of having the grid in the first place - to bulk edit.

The log details contains this message: "Creating Entity with an invalid parent. Entity: Email, ReferencingAttribute:regardingobjectid"

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

@Spinner we've just seen this issue crop up in the last couple of days, and am about to start investigating.

Did you get anywhere with it, is it still happening for multiple users?

@Dan_B Unfortunately not. It's still happening.

Looking at the PATCH request that is sent from the record detail page (i.e. the one that works), the regardingobjectid_customtable_email@odata.bind property is set to "/customtables(***GUID***)". By contrast, from the grid page, the same property is set to "/emails(***GUID***)". Unsurprisingly this fails as the Regarding record isn't an email.

This seems to me a straightforward bug. If only there were a simple way to report it to Microsoft.
