How are Security Roles related to Business Units? (Record ownership across Business Units)

When you enable the "Record ownership across Business Units" feature in Power Platform Admin Center, you must assign Security Roles tied with specific Business Units. With this setup, the security role only applies permissions limited to the Business Unit scope. See example below, the Efficiency Manager and AIB Roles are assigned the "Data and AI Solutions" scope:

Now my question is: where in the tables is this relation between Security Role and Business Unit saved in Dataverse? If I want to create 20 teams and assign specific Security Role / Business Unit scope to them, how can I automate this process?
I have the same question (0)

    Hi!

Business Units are saved in the Team table:

As you'll find in the relationships for this table, there is a many-to-may relationship with the Security Role table:

Using the unbound Relate Dataverse action (Microsoft Dataverse - Connectors | Microsoft Learn), you can relate teams (Business Units) with Security Roles.

I don't mean relating Team (Business Unit) x Security role.

What @BCBuizer suggested is an action relating Team x Security role, but this is not what I need.

When you assign security roles to teams/users in the Admin Center, what happens is actually Team x [Security Role x Business Unit]. You can see it in the OP screenshot.

I'm looking for a way to automate this assignment.

Creating a Business Unit can be done using Power Automate, for instance:

Of course the Parent Business and Name can be made dynamic.

After the Business Unit is created, automatically a corresponding team is created. In this article you can read how to find the corresponding team and assign security roles in Power Automate: https://powerpro.nl/assign-roles-to-teams-with-power-automate-in-a-business-unit-driven-structure/
