Using Power Automate to update Owning User/Team - help!

Hi all

Ok, so 'Record ownership across Business Units' enabled and try to use a flow to 'update a row' to set a contacts onwing user and/or team. I'm a bit confused. I've seen post mention it's polymorphic but I just don't seem to be able to set these values with a flow or manually. Either way it just seem to set owner and Owning user and owning team field remain blank. I'd like to have the owning user as an individual and the owning team as a dataverse team.

What am I missing?

Any help appreciated.

TIA

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @Treebys,

I believe either Owning User or Owning Team will be set automatically depending on the type of record you set Owner to. If you set Owner to a User (systemuser) then Owning User will be set automatically (to the same User) and Owning Team will be blank. If you set Owner to a Team (team) then Owning Team will be set automatically (to the same Team) and Owning User will be blank.

This is standard behaviour I believe, so you won't get Owning User and Owning Team both to be set at the same time. It's one or the other. Owner is polymorphic as it can target either a Team or a UserOwning User is not polymorphic as it can only target a User. Owning Team is not polymorphic as it can only target a Team.

Another way to think of Owning User and Owning Team is just a simpler way to access the Owner without having to worry about the polymorphic nature of the column

    Hi parvezghumra

Thanks for replying. Yes, I tried updating to a user and also a team and in both cases neither Owning User or Owning Team displayed. I've gone back to Owner and Owner Business Units now.
