Can't figure out edit field

Hello,

I'm trying to make an edit form in order to edit specific fields, but it doesn't give me boxes to edit (see screenshot). I am connecting to an Azure database and I do have rights to edit the field there, but I can't figure out this form in PowerApps. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.

What is the item property of your form?

@Drrickryp My item property is blank

A form is expecting to have a record to edit unless it is in New mode. To see how this works,

Put a vertical gallery on the screen and make its items property ve2doTasks_2, and assuming it will be called Gallery1. Then put Gallery1.Selected in the Item property of your form and it should populate with any record you select in the gallery.

@Drrickryp Okay I got the data! Thanks so much. It still doesn't let me edit though - is there another step I'm missing? Thanks so much for your help - I'm super new to PowerApps

Make sure it's an edit form not a view form.

It is an edit form (see screenshots)

What do you mean by "it won't let you edit"?

    @Drrickryp

So I can edit if I double-click and am in the app (don't hit play)

But if I hit play, it doesn't let me edit (I want the user to be able to edit the form when I publish)

(sorry again if this is a silly question, I'm new and can't seem to find the answer myself!)

Let's start fresh please. Do the following:

    • start with a fresh empty screen
    • put a vertical gallery on it from the left side of your screen
    • Put your database name in the Items property, name the gallery galToDo
    • Select one of the layouts from the right side of your screen.  In my case I chose Title, Subtitle and Body.
    • I chose winterathletics, in your case you would pick ve2doTasks_2.
    • Put an Edit form on the screen and select the datasource from the right side of the screen: !1.jpg

    • The edit form should populate with your fields from the datasource.
    • name the Form: frmToDo
    • Make the Item property of the form: galToDo.Selected.

Put four buttons on the screen outside of the edit form and name them like I have in the second screenshot.

    !2.jpg

    • Make the OnSelect property of each button the text in the red except, inside the parentheses put frmToDo.
    • The form should be already in edit mode because this is it's default mode.
    • Go to play mode and change one of the fields in the form.  Press the Submit button and see if it works.
    • Press each of the buttons above the form and see how it changes the form.

Okay, so I'm following up until I add the edit form. Once I add this form and connect to the data source, the edit form doesn't populate with the fields from my data source. I then hit edit fields, and add appropriate fields - but when I do this, I don't get those edit boxes that I see on your screen (see screenshot). It also doesn't give me the option to set the control type to edit (I'm going through an Udemy course and the videos switch to edit here but I don't have that option - and again I am able to edit in Azure)
