In Copilot Studio, we see this notice, regarding generative AI:
"Enable intelligent features in your copilot. This feature runs on Azure OpenAI service and Bing Search. You consent to your data flowing outside your organization's compliance and geo boundaries."
Does this disclaimer ONLY apply if we enter PUBLIC websites into the Copilot settings, or even if we enter private SharePoint sites?
Hi one question regarding Azure OpenAI service used for generative Answer node. Is this service run in the same tenant of the copilot studio or it is a general service outside the tenant?
We started documenting a lot guidance, best practices and patterns in the aka.ms/CopilotStudioImplementationGuideBlog
Thanks. Is there any definitive documentation we can refer to before proceeding with building out a solution?
No, Bing isn't used for that data source. I don't think you should have any geo boundary concern if you're in the US commercial cloud region.
Thanks. I am eastern US. If we're using ONLY private Sharepoit sites, is Bing still used and therefore data leaving our boundaries?
Hi @darylvogan
The complete answer to your question will depend on the region, you can find out more here: Move data across geographic locations for generative AI features outside United States - Microsoft Copilot Studio | Microsoft Learn. For example, so regions don't have local Azure OpenAI capacity for Copilot Studio to use Generative Answers. So cross-geo calls must be made.
On top of that, the "public data" data source (i.e. public website or Bing Custom Search) uses Bing, and Bing is a global service. So, there can't be geo-boundaries for this source.
