Launching Outlook or Gmail Android Apps

Hi,

My apologies if this has been asked before but I can't find an exact answer so here goes.

I have created a canvas app which works great on the company's Android tablets. I now have a requirement to call both Gmail and Outlook apps from within the canvas app. I do not need to include any parameters (e.g. send to, subject etc...), I just need to launch the Gmail and Outlooks as if the user the just tapped on them from an Android home screen.

I am sure it can't be that hard but all the launch examples that I could find were trying to start a new email rather than just opening the bog standard client app.

Grateful for any help.

Stephen

Unless there is a custom URL defined on the device by the App (and even in that case its not a given that it will work), the docs say that launching native apps is not supported.

Launch and Param functions in Power Apps - Power Apps | Microsoft Docs (see footnote below the code in this section)

Thanks, Kind of surprising that there is no way just to launch an app but that clears in up. I can stop torturing myself looking for a way to do it.

    Cheers, Stephen

There was a time where ms-outlook:// worked and that was great but it didn't last (a few android vers later and it doesnt work), but anyway, the Power Apps player can't detect if you have that client installed, so it won't know whether to open that or Gmail - the best way is still to try use the emailto:// link format which will use the device's default email handler
