How to get rid of errors for form tied to a gallery?

I am scratching my head on this one. I have a gallery that populates a form (in view mode) when an item is selected. Works great. But I run into problems when I put the form in edit mode. I make changes and try and submit those changes but any required field, even if it has values in it, throws errors like the image below. Why would that be?

One thing to note. It appears this is only an issue with combo boxes and radio buttons. The text fields are fine.

Just to troubleshoot a bit, if you make that NOT required, when you save the form in new and/or edit mode, does the datasource update with the correct value?

There are multiple combo boxes that this is happening with but yes. If they are not required the record updates correctly.

Update to my last post. The change I made does update but all of the combo boxes, with the exception of one, updated the record with blanks in place of the data that was there. Clearly an issue with my update. I guess I need to figure out what is different about that one combo box and why it maintains its value when updating,

The only thing that stands out is that the one combo box that keeps it value and updates correctly uses ComboBoxName.Selected.Value  for Update where the others are ComboBoxName.Selected.ColumnName. If I were to change that second combo box to ComboBoxName.Selected.Value it throws and error "Name isn't valid. 'Value' is not recognized."

Hmmm. If I change the combo box Items property to something like Distinct(TableName, 'ColumnName') then I can set the combo box to ComboBoxName.Selected.Value. When I submit the form that value is written to the table and retrieved correctly. Not sure exactly why this works or if this is the correct way to fix it. Would appreciate some feedback on this one.
