Dataverse API licensing

Hi

 

We were wondering the following;

 

We want to create a custom web portal that connects to Dataverse through the Dataverse Web API

 

Do external users need a license when performing CRUD operations to Dataverse through the custom portal using the Web API?

If so, how is this license scenario covered?

    Hi,

     

    I have to suggest you call in to the Licensing / Sales folks for the Power Platform and Dataverse. Anything here should be considered inaccurate ,since we do not write the licenses / sales stuff.

     

    What I will say is, yes if you write your own web front end and are NOT using Dataverse Portals (which supports both authenticated and anonymous users), then you need to pay per user.

     

    But consider my information wrong also, even with my experience.

    Thanks for your answer.

     

    Unfortunately, I have been in contact multiple times with Microsoft support and nobody can give me a decisive answer on this because they even say the documentation is not clear on these matters.


    When building an external facing web app, how are these licenses somehow managed? how can this be tracked?

    Since it will be a custom webapp where external users can anonymously enter data that will be transfered to Dataverse.
