Using lookups with Azure SQL DB

This article https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/support-for-lookups/ - talks about using lookups with Sharepoint (I'm not really familiar with Sharepoint or those lookup types), but I'm very curious about how they are used with Azure SQL DB. I would think they would use foreign key relationships for example, but there doesn't appear to be any documentation for how they work (just the reference in the article that they "should" work the same - which isn't very helpful).

I'm also wondering what (if any) connection this feature (which they refer to as lookups) has with the lookup function available in PowerApps.

In repsonse to your last question, I don't think there is any connection between the two features.  The Lookup function in PowerApps just seems to me the equivalent of First(Filter(Source, Condition))

It's similar, but with the ability to extract out just one value, it's probably more like ShowColumns(First(Filter(Source, Condition))) - but I can't remember if it supports just one or more than one columns at the end. At any rate, you are likely right about there being no correlation between the two, but I wish I understood better how the other lookup functionality they showed was supposed to work in Azure SQL DB.
