Model Driven App - Dynamic height for text field on a form

Hi everyone,

I have several multi line text fields on forms in my model driven app. Now I want to set the height of these text fields in a dynamic way, depending on the length of the text inside the field.

Is there a way to do this? Maybe via javascript?

Many thanks in advance and kind regards,

Michael

    Hi @unclejohn ,

In Power Apps Model-Driven Apps (also known as Dynamics 365 or Power Apps for Dynamics 365), the customization options are more limited compared to canvas apps. While it's not straightforward to dynamically adjust the height of multi-line text fields based on the length of the text using standard configuration options, you might consider the following approaches:

    1. Auto-Expand Feature (Recommended): Depending on your Dynamics 365 version and updates, you might have access to the "Auto-Expand" feature for multi-line text fields. This feature allows the text field to automatically adjust its height as the user types more content. To enable this:

      • Open the form editor.
      • Select the multi-line text field.
      • In the field properties, enable the "Auto-Expand" option.

Note that this feature might not be available in all versions or environments, so check if it's applicable in your case.

    2. Custom JavaScript (Unsupported): While Power Apps Model-Driven Apps don't support direct JavaScript customization due to the platform's managed environment, you might try using JavaScript using unsupported methods like web resources. However, this approach is not recommended, as it might lead to unsupported configurations and compatibility issues.

Please mark this post as solution if it helps you and give it a thump up.

    Cheers!

    Hi @gcmfaizan

thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately there is no "Auto-Expand Feature" available in the field properties in my editor. How can I find out which version/update is needed to enable this feature?

    Cheers 🙂

Hi @gcmfaizan, can you point us to any further information about the auto expand setting, please? I have a similar use case to the OP and this would be ideal
