Unable to restore app older than 6 months? Am I missing something or that's just my luck? :)

Hi everyone,

I just recently discovered that I am unable to restore apps older than 6 months? Am I missing something or that's just my luck? 🙂

Simple use case here: I edited an app which has NOT been modified in over a year. Botched it. Wanted to restore back to the working version and that's where I found out - I can't. Ok lets rephrase, forget the word restore, I just want to undo the changes I made 3 minutes ago that broke my app so that my app works again. How do I do that?

Thank you

Power Apps has never allowed restoration of a version more than 6 months old. Its been that way since the beginning.  Keeping unlimited numbers of versions in cloud storage for an indefinite period of time isn't a realistic expectation.  That's not unreliability on the part of the platform. That's not reading the documentation.

It this really an answer?! When I started to use PowerApps I didn't knew the plan to change the rules during the game. I modified an app having the older version published over 6 months ago. Something went wrong on the newer version, I can't restore the old onr (live because in over 6 months ...) to restart the work !!! This platform is unreliable and should be avoided or use as playground for learning)

The mechanism would be to Save a copy of the App to your computer before making a change if you haven't edited it in over 6 months.  That way if you make a change in the first edit you have a backup copy you can fall back on.  You can also Export the App as a package before opening it for editing. Again, if you break it you can import the package to get back where you were.

@Pstork1 so is there another mechanism if I may ask - be it manual or what not to provide safety in my use case, would you recommend one exports the app before modifying it since there's no safe harbor available natively so to speak? Right now it's a one way street - that's terrible in any aspect of dev!

    Thank you

Unfortunately, you are correct.  Version history for Canvas apps is only maintained for 6 months.  This is called out in the documentation
