Network error when using Patch function The specified column is read only and can't be modified

I've been getting this error, "Network error when using Patch function The specified column is read only and can't be modified", for the past week (today is December 11, 2023) for no reason. It has cost me 20 hours of my time troubleshooting. If you leave the app after getting the error it sometimes clears when you come back in. But in one of my apps it was persistent on a button that runs a complex code block. I spent many hours trying to figure out what part of the code was causing the error since the Patch was part of a complex Switch function. It turns out the solution in this case was to copy the code to a notepad, delete the button experiencing the Network Patch error, create a new button, copy and paste the code in and the Network Patch error did not occur again. At least yesterday. We'll see about today!

I've gotten the error in three apps in total, in two different offices and on three different laptops. So internet connection, particular laptop and particular app are not part of the problem. In all 3 apps the data source was SharePoint and there are NO read-only fields in any of the SharePoint lists for these apps.

MICROSOFT, FIX THIS ERROR NOW! You've cost my company thousands of dollars in my time and the reputation of Power Apps greatly suffers from these kinds of intermittent errors.

It's likely not the patch code that has something wrong, but Power Apps itself.  Several other threads have popped up on this exact same issue over the past month and week.

Correct, I have determined over 20 hours of troubleshooting that it has nothing to do with the code. Just this morning I clicked a button in one of my apps and I got the Network Patch error. I immediately exited the app and then came back in and clicked the same button and I DID NOT get the error. So it's not the code. It's something on the Power Platform backend that's causing this error.

I've been experiencing the same, user's initially started reporting this behavior mid last week.  Also spending hours trying to troubleshoot and recreate the issue and it's VERY inconsistent.  I was not able to reproduce the issue all last week, then suddenly today I sometimes see it.

Other threads seem to recommend rolling back the authoring version of the app, and while it seemed to fix it for a couple hours, the issue came back.  Out of curiosity does your application use a form control and if so, does it have choice/lookup fields?

Just wanted to say, published this to the 3.23121.20 version yesterday morning and it seemed to work for a little bit, but the errors seemed to have returned. Still no luck in making them go away, other than telling the users to refresh the app when they first open it (and even then it doesn't seem to fix it for long)

    Hi lcordov2,

No I'm not using a form control anywhere in the app. Just containers and galleries.

    Hi yosefzav,

For what it's worth, I didn't get the error once today, 12/14/2022, Eastern Standard Time working hours. Hopefully Microsoft is getting this FIXED!!!

That's great to hear.  Did you update your apps in any way like changing the authoring version?

Yup it's been working so far for me as well again, looks like they must have changed something since the errors have stopped (v3.23121.20). I will say, everytime I re-open the powerapps editor it changes the authoring version automatically to the recommended one of the 3.23114 one, so I need to check that each time, but otherwise this one has been quiet thankfully.

Also side question if any of you know since maybe it's related but:

My published app version is on 3.23121.20 (confirmed by the versions list as well)

but on the actual app session notes it says it is on 3.23114.17, should this be happening?

    Hi lcordov2,

I didn't change the authoring version but I did export the solution and imported it into a new environment. My idea that maybe some corruption was introduced into the app because of all the errors and I was hoping to the export and import would clean this up. Don't know if that makes any sense, LOL! The app is on 3.23114.25. . .
