    AuthoringCanvas:AuthoringCanvasResources.TestChat.failureScenarioOptions.answerNotFoundInSearchResultsText

suggests that the bot is unable to find a relevant answer from the indexed documents in your knowledge source, even though it may briefly display a response before showing the error.

Here are a few possible causes and suggestions to resolve it:

    1. Document Indexing Delay or Failure

    • Cause: The document might not have been fully indexed yet, or indexing failed silently.

    • Solution: Re-upload the document and ensure it completes indexing. Check the status in your Azure AI Studio or wherever your bot is hosted.

    •

    2. Answer Found Outside Indexed Content

    • Cause: The bot may generate an answer using its general knowledge, but the system is configured to only show answers found in the indexed documents.

    • Solution:

      • Check if your bot is set to “Restrict answers to knowledge base only”.

      • If yes, and the answer is not found in the indexed content, it will throw this error.

      • You can either:

      • Expand the content in your documents to include more relevant information.

      • Or allow fallback to general AI knowledge if appropriate.

    •

    3. Formatting or Content Issues in the Document

    • Cause: If the document is a PowerPoint or PDF with complex formatting, the content might not be extracted properly.

    • Solution: Try converting the content to a simpler format (e.g., plain text or Word) and re-upload.

    •

    4. Search Configuration or Query Issues

    • Cause: The bot might not be forming the right search queries or the search configuration (e.g., semantic ranking, filters) might be too strict.

    • Solution: Review your search configuration in Azure AI Search or Cognitive Search settings.

    •

    5. UI Bug or Delay

    • Cause: The UI might briefly show a generated answer before the backend validation fails.

    • Solution: This is likely a frontend issue. You can report it via the feedback channels of the platform you're using (e.g., Azure AI Studio).

Basically it means that the reply is inappropriate or the AI don't have enough material to answer for the question. For me I got rid of this message once set in the action properties to use Classic data (see attached picture). This way my Agent could use general knowledge with the source knowledge to format the correct reply.

I'm writing a blog about creating Copilot Studio Agent, please see www.karlex.fi

@MM-26060905-0 how about putting all knowledge sources on and using very simple prompt like "What is summer". Just to get some answer. And then start one by one making the prompt better and dropping knowledge sources or data away and locate when does it break?

Or create another Agent, start with generative answers and look does it work there.

We have a few agents that were working fine until the last week.
Seeing this error with even simple Agents.

Create new agent, added SharePoint as knowledge source.
ask the question and get the error.

Some agents that are showing this issue will actually start displaying the Answer, then switch to the error
    AuthoringCanvas:AuthoringCanvasResources.TestChat.failureScenarioOptions.noSearchResultsText

For some Agents if we turn back on "Use General Knowledge" it will work, but others do not.
We only want to use grounded Knowledge sources, so don't want to use General.

We are working on opening a ticket with Microsoft.
