Exporting a solution from D365 CE sometimes times out after more than hour. (As already mentioned in Azure Devops Marketplace)

This happens randomly, but mostly in the nightly hours for our scheduled UI testing builds.

 

We use SPN authentication in our connections to Dynamics 365.

 

It looks like the async process is not monitored the right way for being completed and then times out.

 

Attached you'll find the logs of one specific run.

    Duplicate of PowerApps Export solution task was timeout after 60 minutes whithout giving an error.

    CDS currently only offers the ExportSolution request/response as a synchronous call. The connection times out since the http proxies between AzDevOps agent and CDS have http server side connection timeouts, usually in the range of 4-5 minutes. There is work underway on the service side to support a proper asynch http request pattern. No ETA yet, sorry.

     

    Current workaround: refactor your CDS solution into smaller dependent CDS solution so that each stays below the 4-5 min export timeout.

    This explain it for some part, but I experience it too with small solutions that take normally less than 3 minutes to export.

    export solution's execution time can vary considerably, depending on your environment's momentary compute load. This is why the current timeout experience with the synchronous export is truly annoying.
