AI Builder multiple document layouts best practices

Hello, when we first evaluated AI Builder over a year ago for consideration of processing roughly 1500 different types of invoices it was clear this was not a viable option at the time due to limitations of requiring a model per customer as our 1500 customers all have different invoice layouts which is quite normal.  With the announcement of multiple document layouts

I see it indicates a maximum of 100 layouts.  I am curious if this is per model and if this is scalable enough yet to handle 1000-2000 customers or 1000+ different layouts?  Would you separate your invoices across 10+ models?  Any feedback is appreciated.

    Hi @Dudditz,

    Thanks for posting this question.

Correct, you can now have 100 different layouts per model, and we’ll soon increase the limit to 200 layouts per model.

Indeed, for 1,000 different layouts, today you will need 10 models.

Do you know about the Invoice Processing model in AI Builder? It’s a pre-built model – no need to train – that we offer in AI Builder and can extract the most common fields found on invoices. I invite you to give it a try on the AI Builder homepage to see if it fits your need. One approach we’ve seen customers adopt is building a custom Form Processing model to process the top invoices from customers you work with and let the Invoice Processing pre-built model handle the rest: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/ai-builder/prebuilt-invoice-processing#use-the-invoice-processing-prebuilt-model-to-handle-invoices-that-a-custom-form-processing-model-hasnt-been-trained-to-handle

Happy to provide additional guidance if needed.

Hi Joe, your recommendation makes sense and is in-line with how I have done them in the past with other AP automation solution focusing the top vendors driving most the invoices.  I shall take a look at the invoice processing model in AI Builder as you suggested.

I have to say with my limited testing these components have come a long way since I last tested them.  Nice job.
