What will be the cost per user if we want to upgrade our E3 licensed users to work with dataverse

In many scenarios where we have Organizations using SharePoint as their data-source and we suggest to use dataverse to overcome the limitations of using SharePoint mainly list view thresholds and the number of items that can have unique permission per list.

the first question we get is how much such an upgrade will cost per user per year? let say an Organization have E3 license for all its users, and we want to upgrade their license to be able to work with dataverse? so what is the approximate cost for such an upgrade?

Thanks

    Hi @johnjohn123 ,

You would need at least a Power Apps Per App license for each user that utilizes the application that references Dataverse (assuming you go full Dataverse vs. Dataverse for Teams).  This cost would be $5 per user / per month (at list price for commercial price list).  This gives the user access to 1 app in 1 environment.  Note, it does not let the user access the app in test and prod, only 1 environment.

There is Dataverse for Teams which does provide the relational database concept that Dataverse provides but there are limitations.  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/about-teams-environment

    Good comparison: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/teams/compare-data-sources

Dataverse for Teams is included with most Microsoft 365 licenses (including E3).

If you want to provide users the ability to access to unlimited apps then you can go with the Power Apps Per User license ($20 per user / month list price).

@dpoggemann thanks for the info, so when you say:-

If you want to provide users the ability to access to unlimited apps then you can go with the Power Apps Per User license ($20 per user / month list price).

you mean this is extra 20 USD/Month beside the license price we pay for E1.. am i correct?

    Hi @johnjohn123 ,

Correct, the Power Apps licensing is above any E1 / E3 licensing.  As soon as you step into model-based Power Apps or full Dataverse and other premium connectors you would need a Power Apps license for any user which could be a Power Apps Per App or Power Apps Per User license depending on how many apps you want to provide them access to (as I mentioned above).
