Our users are asking for a solution where they can sync CDS Task entities to Outlook based off a yes/no field. My initial thought was to create a Power Automate flow using the Outlook Task connector to create, update, or delete tasks in Outlook based off a CDS trigger. My question is: are there other ways to sync CDS tasks to Outlook? Our ideal solution would be out of the box and not require Power Automate.
Hi @Hapa1 ,
The Dynamics 365 App for Outlook can track/sync tasks from Outlook to CDS/D365, but not the other way. Using Power Automate with the Outlook Task connector as you mentioned would be your best bet to do this. Is there a reason why you are hesitant to do it this way? It will give you much flexibility without any custom development need.

Hi @Hapa1,
There is an out-of-the-box Outlook/Exchange service-side integration with CDS that allows you to sync tasks, contacts, and emails. The plumbing is enable by default when you provision a CDS environment. I recommend to take a look at it to see if it satisfies your needs and/or see if your requirements are flexible to the out-of-the-box behavior instead of perhaps re-inventing the wheel? Here is more details on this:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/server-side-synchronization
BTW: there's also on App for Outlook, might be worth looking at this too for future needs: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/outlook-app/overview
Hope this helps!
@Hapa1 , @EricRegnier ,
I stand corrected from my previous comment. I just tested and confirmed that Tasks can sync both ways between CDS and Exchange. Make sure to set the Synchronization Method for your mailbox record is set to Server Side Synchronization for Tasks in order for Tasks created in CDS to be sync'd to exchange.
