hi,
How can I add data to the bot from a sql database which when asked as a trigger phrase will give the accurate information? Also I would like to know to fetch data from an excel sheet and display on the bot.
Please assist.
This sounds exactly like a project I'd like to implement. Any more details you could provide would be fantastic...screenshots, etc. 🙂
@Teresa24486 If you have Power Automate with the premium connectors, there is a SQL connector in there. But if you're just pulling data, the easier/less expensive way could be to set up the SQL DB in a power BI dataset/dataflow. Then use PowerAutomate to run a query against that dataset and pull back the data. Here's a link on the power BI/Power Automate side.
Power Automate does have a native connector for Excel but the file needs to be somewhere PowerAutomate can access (like OneDrive). For the Power BI side, you would need at least a Power BI Pro license so you can push the dataset to the PowerBI service.
I did something similar where I have a PowerBI dataset that contains the territories for sales reps and when a chatbot has a lead, the PVA bot calls the Flow in Power Automate that runs a query for the lead's state, parses that data to generate an @mention token for Teams and posts a message of that sales rep with them tagged in it. I'd just recommend creating your flow from within the bot - there are nuances for which flows a bot can see and how they have to be in the right "Solution."
Hope that helps!
