Component updates from library not applied when using “Check for component library updates” in open

Hi everyone,

I’m working with a Component Library and have encountered a strange issue. Maybe you’ve seen this too?

Here’s the situation:

  • I have a component library with reusable components.

  • I update one of the components in the library.

  • If I open a canvas app that uses this component after the library update, I get the update notification and can successfully apply the component update in Power Apps Studio → works as expected

BUT:

  • If the canvas app is already open in Power Apps Studio, and I use the “Check for component library updates” button (see screenshot),

no changes are applied, even though the library was updated.

  • Even worse: If I close and reopen the app afterwards, the changes from the library still do not apply anymore.

  •

I’m unsure:

  • Am I missing a step?

  • Is this a known bug?

  • Should I always close and reopen the app to receive updates correctly?

Thanks in advance for your help – would love to understand if others have experienced this too or know a workaround.

Given this behavior, here's a recommended workflow for managing component library updates:

    1. Publish Component Library Updates: After making changes to your component library, always publish the new version.

    2. Close All Related Apps: Before opening any canvas apps that consume the updated library, close them all in Power Apps Studio. This is the crucial step.

    3. Reopen Canvas Apps: Open the canvas app(s) that use the updated component library. You should then receive the notification for available updates, which you can apply.

Of course, I can work around this by closing and reopening the app after updating the component library.
But do you experience the same behavior? Is this a known bug?

It feels like the “Check for component library updates” button doesn’t work as expected when the app is already open. I just want to confirm whether this is a known limitation or if I’m doing something wrong.

    Thanks again!
