Problem with Associated Views in Model Driven Apps

(0) ShareShare

I have created a model driven app using Accounts, Contacts and Activity entities.

I have added a few contacts, and then added some activities for each of those contacts

When I then search for one of the contacts and click on 'related' , and then select 'All Activity Associated View' I would expect to see only the activity linked to that contact, when in fact I see ALL activities for all contacts.

Is that not what Associated means?  How would I filter down to what I would describe as 'related records' - ie only the Activities  that relate to the contact I had chosen.

    Hi @ghdunn ,

    About public or system model-driven app views, please refer to:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/create-edit-views-app-designer

    Regards,

    Hi Mona, @v-monli-msft

    Many thanks for this.  I think i reviewed that before posting the question.

    I can't see any specific explanation in there that covers my issue, though...that in selecting a specific Contact record, the 'related' view does not seem to filter the Activity records entered on that record.

    The screenprint of related records seems to show activities that have no connection to the chosen Contact.

    Yes this is exactly how 'Associated Records view' works; it shows "only" related record to the particular Contact only. The related record works on the basis of 'Regarding' field on activities. Can you open activities showing up in the view and see what 'Regarding' field is set to, it should be set to 'gerald dunn' contact.

    I also noticed you have a user with the same name 'Gerald Dunn' who 'created' top two activities. Please note User and Contact are different records and even if activities are created by Gerald Dunn (user) and other users but all have 'gerald dunn' (contact) set in the Regarding field, all those activities will be shown in Associated Activities of 'gerald dunn' contact.

    Many thanks @solutionsfinder

    I think we are in complete agreement as to how this should work...but I don't think it is working like that.

    As you see from my two screenprints below, if i choose one of the items on the list, the Regarding field is not ghdunn, but another, completely unrelated contact.

    I understand that Contacts and Users are completely separate records, and it is the Activity related to Contact I would expect to see.

    A new question is:  is Regarding limited to only one entry?  Wouldn't I expect to write an email to two contacts and have it show up in both?

    Sorry if I am just no getting something!

    Good point @ghdunn. When an email record is created with multiple contacts as recipients, that email does show up as 'associated activity' in all those contacts.

    @solutionsfinder

    You responded to my additional question...but the original issue was still open..why is the view not showing just the activities related to that contact?

    Digging further I think i have worked this out...the green button in my screenprint allows me to toggle between related and not.  The default is not related, so it shows everything, but if I click the button i get what i want.  I have no idea WHY it would work that way...what is the value of allowing you to drill into a contact and then by default showing you ALL the activities in the system, unfiltered.  Is that the expected behaviour?

    To our understanding, the behavior you are referring to here should be expected behavior in this case.

    You're right, @ghdunn. Agreed with you this should be expected behaviour.

    @solutionsfinder @poweractivate

    Thanks both...I am confused as to why the unfiltered view should be the default one, but the filter button does offer a clear workaround, so I will call it good...many thanks!
