Photo to phone storage

Hello,

I built an app in which the end-user can take pictures. The pictures are collected as part of a collection and then the collection is uploaded as part of the attachments via a form. This was working great until we came across an error most likely introduced during a broken internet connection during the upload of the form. Only part of the form was uploaded but the attachment field in this particular row was empty. The end-user was ignoring the error messages the app was giving and just closed the app.

Currently, no backup pictures are stored on the phone. Is there a way to back up the pictures onto the phone in case something similar happens again?

    Hi @PowerAppNewbie2 ,

    You could use the SaveData function - you will get back whatever is there by LoadData. The only issue is that each saving overwrites the previous.

    I also have users in the field taking photos (thousands of them monthly in at times weak internet) and I write to a Library (although attachments would work the same) and present a gallery of the photos stored directly queried on the data source. The users know that until they see the photo in the gallery, it is not stored and to not leave the site until they see the photos they need.

    Please vote to Allow PowerApps camera save images into camera roll device automatically in the future.

    Hi @WarrenBelz

    Don't think SaveData works in this instance as people create several data row entries on usage so the collection is cleared in between. The app has the option to check if the pictures are stored via a gallery option on a separate screen but at the moment tend to forget to double-check that they're actually uploading properly. Having a safety net would be ideal or even a query that is checking that the upload actually successful rather than relaying on the (on success) function alone.

    @PowerAppNewbie2 ,

    I agree hence the qualified comment in my post. I do not know your situation with your users, but you could consider putting in something that confirms saving for them to rely on before proceeding.

    @WarrenBelz

    In your app do you have the confirmation on a new screen? And then you recall that data via edit form? So basically on success rather than navigating to allow the user to enter a new sample navigate to a screen that is recalling the last entry directly from the SP list?

    @PowerAppNewbie2 ,

    All my apps have a "point of truth" gallery or form linked directly to the data source. Users (they are in the field fixing things on power poles) have responsibility for their data and know if they do not see what they have entered (or the photo they have taken) in the appropriate place, then they do not proceed until they do. If they are offline (no internet) , they make a note of the data or take the photo on the device to upload later. We have been doing this for a number of years without any significant issues.

    Thanks @WarrenBelz

    I created now an additional screen that is pulling from SP after it has been uploaded and created some hidden fields for confirmation before the user can progress. Hopefully, this will help to encourage the end-user to check that the pictures have been uploaded as sadly my users like to find every single short cut possible to progress 😞

    Hi @PowerAppNewbie2 .

    Clearly your users do not have the motivation of DCM (don't come Monday) . . .
