Does connecting with on-premises gateway comes with PowerApps for Office365 plan?

Hello,

Would you please share the current state of PowerApps licensing ? Earlier It seems  data gateway connector was possible only as premium connectors, while currently there is per app/per user plan.

Can you please share what is the current state of having gateway connectors ? Which license is requiring ? does it come as default with PowerApps for Office365 plan or I have to buy as premium connectors or something else ?

Would you please clarify?

Thanks,

    I asked that same question recently. Anything SQL related is Premium, on-prem or Azure. You have to have a Premium license or pay the per user/per app monthly to get to SQL. Sharepoint, of course, is included and is quite performant because of how close it sits to PowerApps.

    Thank you for your attention here!

    I am still not very clear, one side, gateway connector is considered as a premium connector.While on the other hand, "Pay per user/app" plan can have this connector regardless of premium license I believe.

    Now, my concern is whether "PowerApps with Office 365" license, can have gateway connector as "Standard Connector" ? Or I need to buy Premium license? OR different plan? - Sorry, it's lil confusing to me right now! 😞

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi @dave8 ,

    It depends on which connector the gateways connect.

    Office 365 license for PowerApps only supports standard connector, if you connect PowerApps to the SharePoint via Gateway, there is no need to buy Premium License since SharePoint is standard connector.

    If you use Gateways to connect PowerApps to SQL Server/Oracle which has been divided into premium connectors, you need to buy Premium License - Power Apps per user plan or Power Apps per app plan.

    Hope this helps.

    @dave8

    @nigel_s  is correct.

    >>Now, my concern is whether "PowerApps with Office 365" license, can have gateway connector as "Standard Connector" ?

    To clarify this point, all connectors are grouped into two types - "standard connectors" and "premium connectors".

    The gateway and SQL connectors are "premium connectors". There is no notion of a connection type changing from premium to standard depending on the license. By subscribing to a "Pay per user/app" plan, you can access all "premium connectors", and you can therefore access SQL Server.

    The answer to this question is that if you want to use SQL server, all users (not just app builders) will need to subscribe to a "Pay per user/app" plan.

    Thank you for clarifying.

    Actually, I need to use gateway to connect with the excel file stored in shared location in on-premises.

    Would you please suggest, in this case, which license/plan is requiring ? - I assume it is possible only by "Pay per user/app" plan and not PowerApps for Office 365 - correct?  Is there any reference link on the same that clarifies gateway connectors possibilities in different PowerApps Plans.

    Thank you in advance!

    Regards,

    I came across with this document: - https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2085130

    and that clarifies as you have suggested:

    Power Apps for Office 365 - Only Standard Connectors

    PowerApps per user/app Plan - can use standard and premium connectors both.

    Hope my understanding is correct.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi  @dave8 ,

    The File System connector is Standard connector, there is no need for you to purchase a premium license.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello @v-siky-msft

    But, file system connector will only work, if there is a gateway configuration - is that correct?

    Can you please clarify this ? It seems now more confusing ? 🙂

    Thanks,

    just to support my statement on file system - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/filesystem/

    It says - Connect to File Systems on your local or network machines to read from and write to files using the "On-Premises Data Gateway."

    and then connections which are used through Gateways, become premium connectors maybe?

    @dave8

    I get that this is very confusing.

    To use the file system connector through the on premises gateway, it's necessary to subscribe to a "Pay per user/app" plan.

    Note that the file system connector enables us to carry out tasks such as copying, deleting, or creating files. Can you confirm that this is what you want to do?

    If you want to create an app that can create, edit, or delete rows from an Excel spreadsheet, the Excel file must be hosted by a cloud storage provider such as OneDrive, Google drive, or Dropbox. It isn't possible to use the file system connector for this purpose.
