Hello,
I m having difficulty with greetings topic. We have configured it to capture user input (What products of our company are you having issues with?) but i am stuck at how do i trigger any of the existing topics (trigger keywords) based on user input?
Appreciate your response.
Thanks
Hi @chakka
Can you share more details on what you're trying to achieve and what you have setup today?
Henry
Hello Henry,
Sure. When you create a new bot (with no customizations and only custom topics), when end user enters a keyword, it will automatically trigger respective topic based on the keywords in the trigger.
However, i added more changes to 'Conversation Start' & 'Greetings' Topic. Now when user enters a keyword, i can see greetings topic triggered and but the bot goes to ideal state (no activity) after the greetings topic is run. I m capturing users response to my question (what products are they interested in?) and now based on their response, i want to trigger any of existing topics.
How do i do that? From the PVA UI, i didnt find any option to achieve my fairly common requirement.
Can you share screenshots of how you've configured this?
I assume you're looking to redirect the user to a separate topic after they've chosen an option, and you can do that with topic management.
Screenshot attached. After the topic is run, one of my variable contains the user response. Based on that i wanted to trigger any of my existing custom topics. If the user responds as AQI, then i want system to run the topic which has AQI in trigger phrase. If the user enters billing, i want to run the topic which has billing keyword as trigger phrase. Similarly we have 20 or more custom topics with different trigger keywords.
I want system to automatically trigger any one of these topics based on user input.
Hi @chakka ,
Are you using the custom html template to run the chatbot or just the normal iframe provided by PVA?
If you are running the custom html template, you can make the bot start automatically when loaded. Otherwise, it will wait for an input from the user.
At the moment. there is no settings to make the bot start automatically from the dashboard settings, which I believe it should have it.
Cheers,
Fernando
The issue here is that you're asking a question and looking to capture the user's entire response. That's all it does - it doesn't not trigger other topics, it just captures a user response to your question.
I don't think you need a Question node here, but instead you should try with a Message node.
You can also add Quick Replies to the message to suggest products to the users.
That way, if they use one of the proposed options or ask something else, regular intent recognition will kick in.
Hey @HenryJammes
Apologize for my inability to explain my use case with clarity.
I had similar question node on the 'Converstion Topic' and after end user had replied, the bot will automatically trigger one of the existing topics based on trigger keyphrases. I want to replicate similar functionality within Greetings topic. After my question node, i want to trigger any existing topics based on the keywords entered by user.
** We have more than 40 products and we cant use "suggest options" method to end users and route to a specific topic based on their selection.
It seems like there is no OOTB PVA functionality to support this, but looking to see if you have any solutions via bot composer framework.
Appreciate your help.
It's OK if you don't use quick replies. I agree with you, it wouldn't be practical for 40 options.
Then just use a Message, and not a Question.
There is no longer a possibility to extend a PVA bot created in the latest version in Bot Framework Composer -- but for good reasons, you shouldn't need it.
Apologize for delay in response.
I found this official MS page which clearly explains the problem statement i m trying to achieve. I am attaching the link here. It talks about implementing using Bot Composer Framework. Please let me know if it is possible to achieve this in Modern Chatbot (latest version)?

Thanks. I will close this thread after your response.
Suggested actions in Bot Framework Composer are the same as Quick Replies in the new version of Power Virtual Agents.
