Phone Number showing blank in customized SharePoint Form

Hello Everyone,

This is my second time posting this exact issue because I never got any answer on the first one so I'm trying my luck again and hoping someone help me out.

I am currently experiencing an issue with a SharePoint list that is integrated with Power Apps form. The form functions correctly when creating a new item; however, when I try to edit or view an existing item, the Phone Number field appears blank, despite being populated in the list column.

Could you please advise on how to ensure the Phone Number field is displayed correctly and not blank when editing or viewing the items in the form?

I am very desperate to finding a solution to this issue. I've been trying to find solution to this issue for weeks. I don't know why the Phone Number always goes blank when I try to edit it in SharePoint.

I also want to mention that I used the slider, text input, along with the the datacard input to format the phone number (format with dashes). I made the slider and text input invisible. I will put down the instruction that I followed to achieve this. However, I don't think this is the cause for the phone number being blank in the edit mode in SharePoint.

Below are the detail pictures of the problem:

  • When editing the form in SharePoint, the Phone Number field displays as blank.

  • The default value for the Phone Number field in Power Apps seems to be set correctly as "Parent.Default"

  • DataCard Default set to "varPhoneNumber"

    Greetings !

Well . . . For starters, I would ask you to check and make sure that when you select any account, the "varPhoneNumber" actually displays a value. . . Maybe put it in a label . . . If it displays, then just try to input it directly into the field, instead of the DataCard. If it doesn't show then it's a whole different problem . . .

Hopefully this helps you out enough, if that's the case feel free to mark this reply as an answer, otherwise, feel free as well to reply for further help!

    Hello @AmínAA

I hope all is well with you.

Thank you again for your response and support. It means a lot to me.

Following your advice, I added a label under the phone number and set the Text property to "varPhoneNumber". This allowed me to capture the phone number I was typing in the Power Apps edit section. However, when I submitted the form in SharePoint and tried to view the edit form, the Phone Number field was still blank. The label text did not display the Phone Number as it did in Power Apps.

Is there a way to properly configure my data card so that the captured value stays in the form and is not blank when I edit the form in SharePoint?

    Thank you for your help.

Below are the detail pictures of the problem:

    • The Label is able to capture the phone number in the edit section of the Power Apps.

    • The Label is able to also capture the Phone Number when I'm creating a new form in SharePoint

    • However, after I submit the form and try to edit the form in SharePoint, the phone number is blank.

    Hello @AmínAA

I also replied to the post you sent earlier today but for some reason Power Platform deleted all the other post besides the one you sent on August 6. I had to re-type my post again. Hope you see my recent posts.

    Thank you!

    Hi there CU31071520-0!

Well, for starters I would like you to check a few things . . . First and foremost, is your data being saved into the Sharepoint List? And if so, is the data saving in the format you intended? Regardless of those questions ,I'd also like to know what column are you using to store the phone number in Sharepoint, is it a Text column or any other kind of column, and do you have any logic within the column or is the column raw besides the data type?

    Recap of the questions:
    • Data is saving to Sharepoint List.
    • Data saving in the intended format.
    • Column Type of the sharepoint List.
    • Modifications or  logic added to the column.

If you can answer all of those questions I should be able to provide an answer that can solve your problems. Heck, maybe checking that you find the solution on your own. In any case I'll be waiting for your response. Cheers!

    Hi there CU31071520-0!

Thank you for the context and answering my questions and clarifying the intent of the App. It does help a lot . . .

Now I'm not really sure how or why is this happening . . . It is indeed intriguing . . . Have you tried getting any other value in the phone field? I mean if you try to get the department, title, manager . . . Does it show it, or it doesn't show it regarding of the variable you have there?

    Hi there CU31071520-0!

Yeah, strange things happen from time to time here and it's kind of interesting to understand how or why it happens . . . I'd say you should take it calmly as being frustrated wont work (Yeah yeah, I know this doesn't help at all, but it's typical to say it). While redoing it might solve your problem, as sometimes we do change some obscure configuration on error and that's what end up causing unknown errors I say that you should only do it if it's easy for you to rebuild that part. If it's going to take you days or weeks, you should try everything you can before . . .

Did you try putting as the default other fields to see if they do display there? I am very curious to see if you can make any text at all appear there. Whatever, other column fields, plain text, just whatever . . . If that does show, then it's something truly strange, and maybe rebuilding the form might be the solution for you . . .

Also, did you check thatn when you use the App on play mode (Not edit, but just going in as a user would), it works? Maybe it's bugged only in the edit view, which while a slim chance, might be the case . . .

I'll await further details on this, I cross my fingers that you can manage to solve this!
