Protecting applications from unauthorized copy

Hi everyone

I'm not sure I am posting in the right section so sorry about that if i'm wrong or if it's a silly question.

I built a few apps for one of my clients. He is very happy with the result, and now he would like to try and sell them, but he is worried people will buy one and then share it. How can one protect his apps and only allow authorized copies ?

(A system of licence or token like what is done for wordpress plugins would be great, but I'm pretty sure this hasn't been made possible for powerapps yet...)

When it comes right down to it, there isn't a foolproof way to prevent others from appropriating solution content in power platform. You can make it difficult by using Managed solutions and some other obfuscating steps but if your customers are both unscrupulous and technologically competent, then they will always be capable of recovering your solution to some functional degree.

You could make the solution somehow rely on a cloud service - an API, for example - that you control and they can't get to the Source for... This would present a more formidable roadblock. But even in this case, if your customer is both unscrupulous and technologically competent, they can reproduce the functionality just based on the outcomes.

Even a high school student could easily make a knockoff Wordle without needing to have access to the source code.

If your a register partner, there are licensing options available to you via the partner center system that are respected by the power platform. The is a consistently evolving area, this is where I would suggest you start.
