I created a model driven app for just accounts, when I click on an account, I can add a email record. When doing so there is a button that says I can send the email. However, when i do I get the following error.

Is anyone of aware of what this means I need to do?

    Hi @OverwatchMedia

There are a few things you would need to configure to enable outgoing emails. Apologies for the many links below, but these are the simple steps.

    1. Ensure exchange service-side synchronization is enable and working aka connected to Exchange Online. This should automatically been done upon provisioning the instance unless another admin changed it.
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/connect-exchange-online#verify-you-have-the-profile-microsoft-exchange-online
    2. If your environment is configured that only specific users can send emails, then ensure the mailboxes of those specific users are approved to send outgoing emails:
      1. "Email processing for unapproved users and queues" setting: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/system-settings-dialog-box-email-tab
      2. Approve email: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/connect-exchange-online#approve-mailboxes
    3. Ensure the mailboxes of those specifics users that are allowed to send emails are enabled and working:
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/connect-exchange-online#test-configuration-of-mailboxes
    4. Check if your environment should allow outgoing emails for only known contacts/users or can send to unknown emails.
This is the "Allow messages with unresolved email recipients to be sent": https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/system-settings-dialog-box-email-tab

    Hope this helps!

Google leads me to this page when I search Power Apps and 0x80040b0a

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/common-data-service/org-service/web-service-error-codes

    Which tells me

    Name: NoAddressFoundForRecipient
Message: Could not find email address for recipient of type '{0}' with ID '{1}'

So I suspect the account Chris doesn't have an email address recorded against it.

@EricRegnier  So partially kind of figured it out with 2 caveats

    1. I can send emails to the test data that's initially created, but when I try to create a new account I can not send to those.

    My steps are as follows:

    • create new account only filling out the name for the company
      • Pikachu Co.
    • Under primary contact i try to attach one and click add new
      • I fill in first and last name "Pika Pika" and the email field as pika@pikachuco.com
      • save it, and make sure everything is still saved
    • Create email
    • However I get that error as mentioned before

2.1 The second caveat/scenerio I can send emails; When I click on the account Pikachu Co, If I click on the primary contact Pika Pika, and have the email record as attached to the contact directly instead of the account/company, I can send an email

2.2. As a part of that, if I change a primary contact for the test data that is initially brought in when starting the environment/module, instead of sending it to pika@pickaco.com, it will still send it to the default contact that was provided to it.

Glad to hear there's been some progress 🙂

    1. if you want to send email to accounts, meaning the account record is in the recipients field then an email must be set at the account level. You can have processes (Power Automate flow for async or classic workflow for sync) that sets the account's email whenever the primary contact's email is updated and when the primary contact is updated on the account.

2.1. this is by design since the email is set at the contact level and the contact is set in the recipients field of the email. You should be able to see all email activities rolled up at the account's timeline

2.2. if I understand correctly 2.2, having processes like mentioned above would solve this

@EricRegnier  Okay, at first all emails sent to Pika Pika, were not showing up in Pikachu Co's timeline. It is now though for some reason.

For part 1, is there a way to manually (without a flow) set emails at the account level so I have for future reference if I decide to switch? It seems weird that all the test data has an email set at the account level if by design the accounts themselves are not supposed to have an email connected to them.

Not sure I fully understand what your requirements are, but yes the email can manually be set by users. The CDS sample data is just sample data to show the possibilities and quickly play around with CDS. Depending on the business requirements, it's quite common to have no email at the account level and in other cases common to have email at the account level so whatever works best for your organisation. Hope this clarifies....
