Excel on OneDrive for Business datasource

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm (unfortunately) using Excel hosted on my OneDrive for Business for an app i'm working on, and I have the file set to "People in (companyname) with the link can edit."

I'm 99% sure that the other day I had someone test successfully without me explicitly sharing out my xlsx to them.  Today i'm finding that I have to click share, and add them explicitly, which means I'm also having to spam them with the automatically generated OneDrive share link.

Aside from trying to convert this to a Sharepoint List datasource, is there any other options to sharing this without explicitly adding everyone to the share list on the file?

Thanks in advance!

You do have to share the file, but you don't have to send them the link via email.  If you open the details panel on the file using the Ellipse menu (...) you will see a link for Manage Access.  When you click on that you'll see two tabs at the top, one for share and one for Grant access.  Grant Access will change the underlying permissions of the file object rather than creating a sharing link.  The default is still to send an email, but you can uncheck that box and it will just give them access.

Thanks, any idea why the "Grant Access" button might be greyed out?

Is this your OneDrive?  If it is then you should have full access to it to Grant Access.  Other than lack of permissions I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to get to Grant Access.
