Bug with custom entities in topics with input variables

Hi! I’m having an issue when trying to use a custom entity to be recognized in an input variable within a topic in Copilot Studio.

For context, I use Generative AI, and this setup doesn’t work well with the skip questions feature when a user inputs the value of a variable directly in their initial prompt. I saw a post here recommending the use of inputs, and I’ve tried it—it works quite well. However, the issue is that I can no longer use a custom entity because it’s not possible to select 'identify as' when the entity is custom; it automatically switches to 'user’s entire response.'

create a synonym list for expected custom entity values, which can help Copilot recognize variations in user inputs. Use predefined phrases or terms to capture more accurate inputs related to the custom entity.

Set up a Power Automate flow that triggers when a response is received. Use the flow to identify, parse, and map parts of the user's response to custom entities. This way, you can bypass the default setting by processing the entire response and extracting key details.

map your custom entity to an available predefined entity that supports "identify as." This can sometimes achieve similar results without needing a fully custom setup.

Integrate Power Automate to handle complex input parsing. Pass the input variable to Power Automate, where you can parse the text, identify specific patterns, and return the parsed value to Copilot

Still an issue to this day. What's the point of not being able to map this to entities?

End up having to add some extra conditional steps after the initial input is processed just to ensure it indeed ends up corresponding to my custom entity...

for me here is an untold bug : at the begining of copilot studio (1 year one after end of PVA) i used this feature a lot, was great to skip question, very impressive

Since 2025 : this feature never work again, in old or new agent. Don't what i do wrong to.
