Is it normal for connection references to be off?

If not, how do I turn them on? I'm dealing with a lot of issues after a Microsoft service update for 2 weeks now and don't know what else to do.

I think it matters. I tried to use connection reference to connect excel to dataverse, however the virtual entity didn't show up in Entity catalog at all.

I followed the documentation, I did everything correctly.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/data-platform/create-virtual-tables-using-connectors?tabs=sharepoint

I think the issue why the table isn't integrated is because the connection reference status is off. I didn't find anywhere I can switch it on..

I am experiencing issues with environment variables not keeping the connection reference I set it to, and all of my connection references are also set to 'Off'. Did you ever find a definitive answer for this?
