I have a field which is a person field where the user selects the person. it works in the classic where I can type in the name of the person in the form but when I choose the Modern Control form option, the same field shows up as numbers

Make sure that the DisplayName or the column that you would like to be shown is at the top.

I should be able to put the person name field in any location on the form. and unlike your screenshot this is not a classic control but a modern control column sourced from a sharepoint list column of type "Person/Group". I can tell because the classic control has more options than modern control in person field

I'm also having the same issue. Pretty fed up with modern control to be honest. I didn't experience the same issue when I created the form in a Teams channel - only when I am using the main app.
I actually did find a solution for my particular problem on this so popping it here in case it helps anyone else.
You have to go into the Properties of the card and Edit the field. Mine were totally empty so I used "add field" and then chose DisplayName from the choices.
It seems to be working OK.
Ahhhh, perfect! thanks. I was missing the part where you said to Add field after clicking on the dropdown. What an obscure way they have set it up.

Yeap, you are right but i faced another problem.
Only some names are showing other names refused to show even when you search by their names it doesn't come up. Do you have any idea what could be wrong.
I'm having the same issue, did you managed to get to the bottom of it?
