Get Data not working

I am working through the PowerApps EdX course, and do not have the ability to get data from an Excel file.  I have tried the following options:

  • Excel File (I have the file stored in a SharePoint Online library).  I get the URL of the file from within the libray and paste the URL in the File path or URL connection settings in PowerApps CDS (Image attached).  I am already signed in.  I click next, and get invalide credentials (remember, I am already signed in).
  • Then I try the SharePoint Online List option.  I enter the site URL and click Next.  Document libraries do not show up as an option to select, only lists.  So I do not have the ability to get data from an Excel file.

Others in the class are experiencing the same issue and cannot move forward with the class.

I have the same question (0)

Hi @benmcmann - sorry to hear you're having problems. I suspect its the Excel file URL that's causing the problem, unfortunatley its a bit annoying to get it. We are working on improving this.

If you follow the guidance here : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-use-onedrive-business-links  to get the URL, you shouldn't run into this problem.

    Thanks,

    Clay.

Thanks Clay, but that doesn't resolve the file.  Now I receive an error stating:

An exception occured: DataSource.Error: SharePoint: Request failed: [URL OF THE FILE]/_api/contextinfo.

    Re: Get Data not working

    Hi @benmcmann

I think the URL should end with the file extension type e.g. ".csv" or ".xlsx"

    Example:

    SharePoint document URL = https://<company>.sharepoint.com/sites/<documentlibrary>/<FileName>.xlsx?d=wc5a6127b303142e7bdaf3c9eb0a3ee15

You need to remove anything after ".xlsx" so in the Get Data file path you have:

    SharePoint document URL = https://<company>.sharepoint.com/sites/<documentlibrary>/<FileName>.xlsx

    Hope this helps.

Hi @benmcmann - sorry to hear you're still having problems. You can have a quick look at me doing this here : https://youtu.be/02NWfHRYkeo?t=1337 just to make sure we're talking about the same thing. In the video I show getting the URL from an Excel file stored in a Office 365 OneDrive.

If that still doesnt work, we will need to get some more details and include @millopis from the Power Query team.

    Re: Get Data not working

    Clay,

Following the steps again the next day seems to work (I didn't do anything different - I triple checked the URL of the file before).  I was in a partner App in a Day session yesterday and numerous errors were occuring in our tenant.  The team was looking to see if something happended during the upgrade to CDS 2.0 in our environment, because we are having numerous issues.  I had an open support ticket with the team before regarding our inability to provision a CDS database for about a month.
