Looking at using CDS for an enterprise level application and had a question on backups. So far, all that I can find is that you can create a flow that will export your data to an Excel spreadsheet or go into each entity and manually export the data from the UI/web page. This was from 2017, this still can't be the case today? Is this the only way to backup CDS? Is there a way to automate it through PowerShell or use Azure backup?
What about restoring data?
If anyone can point me to some recent documentation that would be great. It is hard to find and so outdated.
the issue with backup/restore for CDS instances I am currently facing with a couple of customers is that those who do not use dynamics365 are unable to put a production instance to sandbox. Backup/restore as described in above reply only works if customers subscribe to a dynamics engagement apps plan (97$) instead of the Powerapps plan2 licence (40$). The dynamics admin center shows that the CDS environments are backed up, but with only a plan2 licence you are unable to create a sandbox inscance to restore a backup to. This seems to me an inconcistency as MSFT claims P2 licence to have enterprise grade administration of environments. Does anybody know a different way then purchasing a dynamics licence?
Thanks, @Yahya, that was very helpful.
Adding onto what Yahya shared, you can read about backup and restore here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/admin/backup-restore-instances
Note this works for Common Data Service as well.
Here is a Data Export Service which you can also use:

Mr. Dang
got it, thank you! 😄
Dynamics 365 is part of P2 plan of PowerApps, but note Dynamics 365 itself exist only in new enviroments (created after mid April 2018) created based on CDS 2.0 which itself needs a paid (not trial) P2 plan.
thank you for the reply but I do not have dynamics 365 licensed, is that required to access the administration center?
Hi @bboardman, in CDS 2, go to Dynamics 365 Administration Center.
Navigate to Back up and Restore, its there..
