Checkbox value entered in list but no checkbox selected upon loading of editform. always make no sense.

As there is check box in edit form, I assume that you have customized this form in some way. Could you please share more details of your scenario? Where did you add this Check box in the App, a Data Card? What type of column is this? Generally speaking, you need to bound the Default property of that Checkbox to the column value.
