Embedded AI Builder canvas/model driven app in Dynamics 365 Guides

Hi guys.

I know I can use power apps within a D365 Guides. But does anyone know if I can use one with AI Builder capabilities? For example: a power app to identify objects would be functional triggered within the guide and using hololens 2 camera?

Thanks for your comments.

    Hi,

Thanks for posting the question. This sounds like a very interesting scenario. 🙂

If you use the Object Detector control in your canvas app, the only option you will have is to upload a file from the HoloLens – not take a photo.

You can workaround this limitation by using a Camera control in your Power App, taking a photo and then calling a flow in Power Automate that takes that photo, calls the ‘Detect and count objects in images’ action, and then returns back the detected information to the canvas app. Similar to the procedure explained here.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you end up building this solution – we’d love to hear your feedback and see it in action!

    Thanks for the reply, Joe.

So let me see if I got this straight:

    • If I use the object detector control/text detection control in my app (this app is setup as an action within the step of my D365 guide) the hololens won't take the photo and begin processing the image as the app would normally do
    • Instead I can use a regular camera control in the app (taking the photo directly from hololens) and use Power Automate to expose the data in the app

Am I right? Thanks again for your comments.

    Hi @cesardlcs, that is correct.

The object detector/text detection controls will work but will only let you select photos from the file browser, not the camera. To use the camera you will need to go the route of the camera control + Power Automate.

Keep us posted if you build this interesting scenario. 🙂
