Dataverse Licensing | Is dynamics 365 mandatory?

Hi all,

We have a requirement where the Canvas app will use DataVerse. We want to control the security at the record level as well as field level.

We have Power App (Premium License) and do we also require Dynamics 365 License for the " Security & Administration" of Dataverse Entities.

Thanks !

    Hi @adit3094,

A Power Apps per app or per user (premium) license is all you need.

Dynamics 365 licensing is only required when you want to install and use the OOB features offered by those "first-party" Microsoft apps/modules, and the user's will modify (create/update/delete) records from Dynamics 365 tables. If you do have a Dynamics 365 environment, users can have read-only access to the Dynamics 365 specific tables with just a Power Apps premium license.

More info on restricted tables requiring a Dynamics 365 license is available here.

    Hi @adit3094,

Another thing I would recommend is one user in your environment to get a Power Apps Per User license as this will allocate 10GB of data in the Dataverse vs. 5 GB allocation which will allow you to create multiple environments with enough storage.

Chris was right on target otherwise, no D365 needed...

Hope this helps.  Please accept if this answers your question or Like if helps in any way.

    Thanks,

    Hi all,

Right now we have one per user plan license, but if we remove the license then for the whole table storage(10GB), will it be charged at $40/month?

Can someone give some clarification on this?

    Thanks and Regards

    Hi @Anonymous ,

I have never seen the storage amount actually be removed once it is allocated but technically if you do not have a license that provides you the 10GB allocation then you will be charged for any allocation over your allotment.  The cost is $40 per GB for Dataverse capacity so it could be more than $40 per month (if you have 5GB over capacity this would be $200 per month).
