Hi Team,
We are considering the purchase and implementation of Copilot Studio to develop a chatbot capable of answering customer inquiries for our company. Could you please clarify the following questions:
  1. Do we need the Copilot Studio license priced at $200 to create the Agents?
  2. Can users with a regular M365 Copilot create Copilot Agents?
  3. Once the agents are developed and deployed, is it necessary to maintain the Studio License, or can it be cancelled afterward?
  4. Do users of these Copilot Agents require an M365 Copilot, or can they use it for free (e.g., when embedded in a website)?
  5. How is the ongoing cost incurred for usage calculated? It mentions a cost per number of messages—who does this cost apply to? Is it tied to the Copilot Studio License?
  6. Once a user purchases a license to use Copilot, do they also need to obtain a separate M365 license?
  7. For building a copilot: $200 per month per tenant for 25,000 messages, with additional packs available. For customizing Copilot for Microsoft 365: Copilot Studio is included in the $30 user license. Could you please explain this further? Currently, our company has an M365 copilot license. Can we use the same license, or must we purchase an additional $30 license?
  8. Do you have an application that can integrate with a backend database, interpret natural language queries, convert them into SQL statements, retrieve the relevant data, and present the results in natural language (English)?
Also, pls share documents if any on chatbot that can integrate with teams.

Copilot Studio and copilot M365 generic questions.
    Hello,

    1. Yes and no, depending on the needs. Based on the information provided here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-copilot/microsoft-copilot-studio?utm_source=chatgpt.com#footnote1 you can create agents from within M365 Copilot (so with M365 Copilot license only), but with limited capabilities. Copilot Studio offers a full range of customizations.
    2. Yes, see the question above.
    3. That depends on how you've created the agent - via M365 Copilot with limited capabilities or via Copilot Studio. If the second option, then you need to maintain the license in order to have the capacity (Copilot Studio license is consumption based - 25000 messages/month).
    4. That depends on where they were created, see above. If via Copilot Studio, then they can use them without the license - the consumption is tenant or environment wide (I don't remember exactly and can't find it).
    5. It's tied to Copilot Studio license which's consumption-based.
    6. Which license to Copilot do you mean? Copilot Studio one is tenant/environment wide.
    7. I think I've explained this above.
    8. I'm not sure if I understand the question. I think it could be possible to build that kind of chatbot in Copilot Studio.

Regarding the last part: yes, it can integrate with Teams.

What's worth understanding is that: "Microsoft Copilot Studio offers select capabilities for extensibility of Microsoft 365 Copilot within the $30.00 user license. This is separate to the standalone license.". So it means that you can extend M365 Copilot within its license by using Copilot Studio, but nothing more.

I hope that it's understandable. I've done my best, based on the knowledge I have currently. Please note that the licensing is changing a lot day-by-day, so keep that in mind.

Here's a licensing guide for your reference: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2085130

In case of any other questions, let me know. If the answer helped you, mark it, so that others can benefit from it.

    Best regards,
