Power Apps Form Question

I am new to Power Apps and trying to determine the best method for creating a form as shown below.  Currently, the MasterForm and CommentsForm are using the same data source and are included on the "FormScreen".  With this setup, I want individuals to enter general information in the MasterForm (with potential periodic updates to Status, Priority, etc.).  The CommentsForm will have routine New Comments/Updates entered and added to the History of Comments.  I have looked on the web but have not been able to find detailed information on what I am trying to accomplish.  Currently, I have a Home Screen that contains a summary of records entered.  Individuals can Create New, View or Edit individual ID (records) from the screen.

Having said this...

1.  Should I use a Split Screen Gallery or is the current setup best?

2.  As shown, this information would be for the same ID (record).  Regardless of method, how do I link the Forms (or Split Screen Containers) to the record source?

Thanks

    Not entirely following your question on Split Gallery.  What do you mean by that?  Your current look seems fine, but I suspect there is something specific you are trying to address/change.

    As for the Form...if you are going to split a form, make sure you are doing it properly without breaking the features and functionality of the Form.  Too many bad examples out there on how to break the form.

    Please review this video on splitting forms properly without breaking the features and functionality.

    I hope this is helpful for you.

    You are correct in that I'm trying to solve another issue.  With my current Form setup, I am having issues where any item update (Priority, Status, etc.) creates a new Comment.  I am hoping the separate forms will eliminate the Comment creation issue.

    Frankly, my question regarding the Split Gallery  was to determine the best/most robust method for creating and using the Form.  As I review Google videos, there are many opinions on how to do this.

    @RJF61

    I believe what you might be saying is that when you enter information into the form, if you do not enter a comment, it is still creating a comment listing (in what you appear to have as history).

    If that is the case, then splitting the form is not going to resolve that.  Instead I would look to resolve that in the form itself.

    I would need to know more details on the Comments datacard (the Default, and Update properties)

    Yes, you are correct.  If I modify anything in the red-circled area, a new comment is generated with User and Now().  No Comment Entry/Update because field is empty ("").

    Yes, so there is where the problem is coming in...in your datacard properties.

    Change the Default property to: ThisItem.Comments

    Change the Update property to:

    If(!IsBlank('TextInput_NewComments'.Text),
     $"{User().FullName} - {Text(Now(), ShortDateTime)} - {'TextInput_NewComments'.Text}" & Char(10)
    ) & Self.Default

    That should keep any new comments from appearing if you are just changing another field and not adding a comment.

    Thanks for your assistance.  All seems to be working great now.
