Installing Centre of Excellence - what environment to use?

Hi everyone,

I'm quite new-ish to PowerApps and wanted to install the Coe in our organisation. I'm a bit confused about where to install it. When following the setup guide it doesn't mention the type of environment to use. Our organisation has just one default environment where I've created all my apps so far. Looking in the Admin Center we have a Dataverse capacity of 12GB and a file capacity of 78GB which I guess means some other users have Premium licenses though I don't seem to have one. My questions are:

  1. What's the best environment to use for the CoE (Production, Trial or Sandbox)? Shall I start in Sandbox, see how everything works, delete then create a new CoE in a Production one?
  2. Can I then create a CoE without a Premium license? Without a licence, does it still install with very limited functionality?

Thank you in advance for all you help.

Best wishes,

Ciprian

    Hi @CipperNSFT,

You will need a premium license to install the CoE Starter kit in a sandbox / production environment, or a trial premium license. The solutions need to be installed in a Dataverse enabled environment as it creates Dataverse tables, and the flows and apps will use the Dataverse connector to populate data into the tables / read data. The Dataverse connector is a premium connector.

The CoE Starter Kit is meant for administrators so I'd suggest not placing it in the default environment.

Having a sandbox environment is a good idea as it allows you to evolve the CoE Starter Kit and test any changes to it before you make it on the production environment.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you Chris. I can confirm everything you said. When trying to install without a Premium license, the installation, as expected, fails. Thank you for the very good advice!

    Best wishes,

Question for you, is this CoE something you can push to production? Or is it recommended to re-do the install for different environments?
