Restoring relationships after importing data from a different databsae

Hi, I'd be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction

I have imported some data into CDS, and am trying to restore data relationships between records in different entities, e.g. contacts and organisation, or contacts and notes.

So, I have imported the old reference field in both entities:

Contacts:                                                        Organisation:

Old Parent org   <=============>      Old ID

Can someone kindly advise how I can now update the CRM Parent Account field to restore the relationship between records?

Thank you in advance

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @AngeloA

I have faced a similar situation as you and have published some guides to how to deal with the relationships. I have a series of posts regarding how to set up a database in PowerApps and recreate the relationships manually. The series starts with https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/News-Announcements/Database-Design-Fundamentals-and-PowerApps-An-Overview/ba-p/184485  but the third one specifically addresses your issues.  In that post I describe how to use recreate the relationships manually by using the Primary and Foreign keys in the data.

In a later one I used dynamics365 to import the data with the relationships intact. https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/News-Announcements/Importing-an-external-relational-database-into-Common-Data/ba-p/364452 utilizing PowerApps entity relationships.  Hopefully these two posts will give you some guidelines regarding how I set up my own databases from Desktop Access to PowerApps.

You may want to check out the following blog which more fully describes how to use the Dynamics365 import data wizard. https://crmbook.powerobjects.com/basics/data-management-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm/importing-data-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm/the-data-import-wizard-in-dynamics-crm/
