Yeah, it can definitely be a bit confusing.
Here’s the key point: you don’t need a Dynamics 365 license just to use Dataverse. However, some specific tables within Dataverse are classified as “restricted” or “premium” — they’re only available to users with a Dynamics 365 license. These tables are part of the core Dynamics apps (like Sales, Customer Service, etc.), and using them outside of Dynamics requires that license.
So if the Power App you're looking at uses one of those restricted tables, a Dynamics license is required. But that license also includes much more than just table access — you get prebuilt apps, business logic, automation, security roles, etc.
You’re right that many of the apps on AppSource are made for Dynamics — mostly because Dynamics is more complex, and businesses often look for prebuilt solutions there. In contrast, most Canvas App use cases are simple enough that people prefer building them themselves instead of buying them.
