Dataverse link contacts

Hi everyone,

I would like to link contacts (records of the contact table) in Dataverse. Just like it is done in Business Central.

However, the documentation states that it is not possible. At the same time, the "Contact" table has the "ParentContactId" column. However, I cannot use this column in a form. Does anyone have an idea how I can use the column?

Thank you and best regards
Nico

    Hi @HS_Nico,

How are you trying to link the Contacts?  There are at least a couple options here...

    1. Create another "intersect / link" table called something like Contact Relationship where you could have two lookup columns to the Contact to create this relationship.  This would allow you to have basically an N:N relationship with Contacts to other Contacts and you could have additional metadata on this record to describe the relationship.
    2. Utilize Connections entity (https://www.crmsoftwareblog.com/2019/08/how-to-create-connections-and-connections-roles-in-dynamics-365/) which is basically there to help you create uni- or bi-directional relationships between entities with described type.  Example. Tim is Doctor for Dave with the opposite direction of that relationship is Dave is a Patient of Tim.
