I have a SharePoint list named Parent which contain around 2.1 million records, as follow:-

Parent.png

then inside the create/edit child form , and i am building a combobox to show and select from the Parent records, the combobox allow search as follow:-

now since i am allowing search, i though that the Combo-box will allow us to search any record inside the 2.1 million records,, but when i run the application and i try to search for a recently added Parent item, the combo-box could not load/list it.. any advice?

    @johnjohn123 ,

    Combo boxes will only search a maximum of 2,000 items from a data source  (so you are 1,000 times over the limit). Of course, if the output of the combo box (the selected item if a single select) is querying a Text field for the Items of a Gallery, then the Filter will be Delegable on any sized list.

    I wish you the best of luck dealing with a 2m item SharePoint List - it must have taken a long time to put it all in.

    @WarrenBelz Thanks for the reply. i have these 2 points:-

    1) Of course I do not want to show all the 2.1 millions records inside the combo-box >> i just want to allow the combo-box search to do the search inside SharePoint and get the related items? is this possible?

    2) now in my case i am storing the Parent ID inside the child item in free text field (i am not using any SharePoint lookup fields) >> so if combo-boxes will not allow me to search the 2.1 millions records and show the related parent items, then how i can select the Parent record when adding/editing child records, inside the child create/edit form? can you advice on any available approaches i can follow?

    Hi  @johnjohn123

    As discussed in the below topic, changing the Items property of the ComboBox can make this work:

    Items = Filter(Parent_1, StartsWith(Title, Self.SearchText))

    The only downside is that your search will only return results that start with the query.

    @johnjohn123 ,

    No - as I mentioned, the combo box Search function has the same limitation as Search in general - your Delegation limit. With a Text Search in a Gallery, you can use StartsWith, (which is Delegable) but this function is not buillt into a Combo Box.

    I do not clearly understand your second question - if you are saying you have a Table in the Combo Box and want another field from the record selected, that is easy enough once you select the record - it that what you mean?

    @WarrenBelz  but can not i change the Items property of the ComboBox can make this work:

    Items = Filter(Parent_1, StartsWith(Title, Self.SearchText))

    so in this case i can search the 2.1 million records and select the related one?

    @johnjohn123 ,

    Correct - that is exactly what I suggested - you are using StartsWith as the Items of the Gallery (but the Combo Box itself cannot use this to find an item to be displayed in the box - it only has Search up to your Delegation limit). I think we are talking about two different things here - I was assuming you wanted to search for 2.1 million potential entries in the combo box.

    @WarrenBelz  No... i defined the following

    Filter(Parent_1, StartsWith(Title, Self.SearchText))

    inside the Items property for the ComboBox and it allows me to search the 2.1 million items.. i do not have to use Gallery...

    here is what i did inside the Combobox:-

    p.png

    and i were able to start typing and get the related items inside the 2.1 million items i have..

    @johnjohn123 ,

    Good luck if it worked for you . . . I have tried that one before (and just tested it again) and get the same delegation warning as you can see and no results when something is input into the combo box.

    @WarrenBelz  could you share your setting,, as it is working for me without delegation warning errors...

    i think at the end StartWith on a single line of text will not raise any delegation warning

    @johnjohn123 ,

    Same as you

    Filter(
     SPListName,
     StartsWith(
     Self.SearchText,
     TextFieldName
     )
    )

    I am not concerned as I have no reason to use it with the data structure I utilise/require. I can also see a Delegation warning on the screenshot you posted.
