Passing a parameter (stored as a variable) through to a Power BI tile

Hi,

I have a Power App which the user completes a survey against an external contact which generates a reponse set against CDS. This response then has a score associated with it and the we want to track and capture the customers last 3 responses to show them the improvement they have had over a period of time on the last page of the Power App.

We are utilising the standard Power BI connector in Power App to link to my workspace/dashboard. My query is I have seen via my searches that it is possible to filter via a parameter within the report eg region/Unique ID etc. I am just querying whether this can be completed the same for a dashboard and passed through within the Power App?

I will have the ID stored as a variable so querying as to whether this will be achievable via this method - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/controls/control-power-bi-tile.

Has anyone had experience doing this succesfully?

Assuming through the tile URL property this can be set on my initial review.

I will keep looking myself however again if anyone has experience with this feel free to add value. Couldn't see anything within the community forum so could be beneficial to others as we start to deliver more solutions using the full capability of the power platform

    Hi @mattyn07 ,

Do you mean you want to filter the Power BI tile by a Variable?

Please try to append this syntax to TileURL.

    &$filter=<TableName>/<ColumnName> eq '" & VariableName &"'"

    Full URL:

     "https://app.powerbi.com/embed?dashboardId=<DashboardID>&tileId=<TileID>&config=<SomeHash> &$filter=<TableName>/<ColumnName> eq '" & VariableName &"'"

    Hope this helps;

    Sik

    Hi,

That is correct that is what I am trying to do.

I have pinned a report to a dashboard but we trying to find the tile ID as we need to locate that to pass through the string.

Any idea where we can locate that? I have jumped around the settings and it doesnt seem to be anywhere on initial look 😕

    Thanks

    Hi @mattyn07 ,

When you add a PowerBi tile in PowerApps, these <DashboardID>, <TileID> parameters have been defined in TileUrl property.

What you need to use is to append the Filter Query String to the end of URL.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for this I am getting closer.

The last thing from a Power BI perspective do I need to ensure a parameter is setup on the dataset for the value I am trying to pass through?

Just trying to find the last piece of the puzzle to get this working!

    Hi @mattyn07 ,

I am not sure what do you mean, but you just need to append the filter query to Tile URL, there is no need to do anything on Power BI perspective.

If you feel this way is hard to achieve, here is an alternative workaround that you can filter directly on the Tile control.

    1. Go to your Power Bi Report in Power Bi Service

    2. Click File -> Embed -> Website or portal, and copy the link

    3. In Power Apps, Insert -> Chart -> Power Bi Tile (but don't hook it up to any data)

    4. Select the tile, and go to the TileUrl Property and paste your link

You can find the Filter Tab is embedded in the Tile. Hope this helps.

I am doing that but its not filtering on the ID we are passing through

    string.PNG

Dataset has the ID so it should work..

    id.PNG

The tile should only filter to only those values related to ID 4000 however we are getting all values in the tile...

    Hi @mattyn07 ,

What is the data type of mindlinkid?

Please note that there is a limitation that the Filter field type must be string. The workaround is to use computed fields in the Power BI report to convert other value types to string.

    Hope this helps.
