Infomation related to the storage capacity of dataverse?

I read that the maximun size of Dataverse is 4TB in this documentation (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/teams/data-platform-compare):

However, other documentation (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/environments-overview) have notes that the defaut environment is limited to 32GB and the free storage is 3GB Dataverse Database Capacity, 3GB Dataverse File Capacity, and 1GB Dataverse Log Capacity.

Our school is using Office 365 Education License and we used Dataverse to store the data, we only have 01 default environment within the tenant.

I'm pretty confused and would like to ask if we continue to store our data in Dataverse, what is the maximum capacity of Dataverse which we could use? Will the maximum capacity be 4TB, 32GB or 3GB? What will happen if our data size beyond this capacity?

If we create more production environments in our tenant, what is the capacity of these environments?

This information is pretty important because to we created our databases in Dataverse.

Thanks,

Hakurei

    Hi @Hakurei312 ,

Normally you should not be creating applications in the Default environment.   This is a "special environment" and you can not backup, delete or really manage this environment from an ALM perspective.  As best practice, I will always utilize Sandbox and Production environments for any applications I build and. I would recommend the same.

The maximum size of the Dataverse Sandbox or Production environments are the 4TB (or more) as mentioned.  This is a situation if you are going higher than this you can contact Microsoft and I think they will allocate more space to you.

The main thing here to understand is this is "maximum" space but you are only allocated specific storage in Dataverse based on your license levels.

Example the base allocations per environment (as of November 2021 licensing guide):

    Screen Shot 2021-11-04 at 5.17.22 AM.png

So if in your environment everyone is using Per App licenses then you will get table space of 5GB (initial capacity) + 50 MB for each user with a Per App license so if you have 10 users your total database table allocation would be 5.5GB of space.

Additional space requires purchase of add-on storage in Dataverse.  You can check with your partner or Microsoft on this cost but it is not cheap.  Microsoft does a great job of compressing data in Dataverse so you can store a lot of records within the allocation but it is something to be aware of.

Hope this helps.  Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.

    Thanks,

    Drew

Hi, thank you for your answer. I'm curious about data compression ratio in Dataverse, but I can't find any official Microsoft documentation about this. Do you know anything?

    Thanks,
    Nghia

The default environment is limited to 1 TB of storage capacity. To store more data, you can create a production environment. The default environment has the following included storage capacity:   10/02/2025
