SQL Server connector with Azure AD Authentication and Azure SQL

I am trying to figure out how to get the SQL Server connector working with Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication and Azure SQL.   I am getting an error message "The tables didn't load correctly.  Please try again" when choosing a dataset.   I am able to use the connector with SQL authentication, but I can't get the magic to work if I create my connection using AAD authentication.

I've have tried the following:

  • Turn on the 'Enable enhanced Microsoft SQL Server Connector' preview feature for the app
  • Turn on Allow Azure services and resources to access this server for the database
  • Set an Active Directory admin for the database (and create and use the connector with that account)
  • Specify the SQL server name multiple ways (with an without port number)

This is probably already set up this way, but is your AD connection for your email set up as having select, edit, add, delete access?

I am signed in with an account in the group assigned to Active Directory Admins and I have added the account as a db_owner.

I seem to be able to do all the things when connected using SQL Server Management Studio with 'Active Directory - Universal with MFA support' authentication.

Apparently the issue is the version of the SQL connector that we have in our default environment is not the latest.  I created a new environment and was able to connect successfully.
